According to OAG, a travel data company based in the United Kingdom, two Vietnamese airports—Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai in Hanoi—are among the world’s 50 most internationally linked airports.

According to OAG’s examination of flight data from the world’s 100 largest airports, southern hub Tan Son Nhat rose three places from the previous ranking in 2019 to the 40th position, while its sibling in the northern capital rose 15 places to the 46th position.

The rankings were determined by analyzing how many foreign flights link to and from each airport and how many different destinations are offered.

OAG began publishing the full rating this year to “provide essential insights into how flight connectivity has returned across the world’s largest airports post-pandemic.”

When it comes to international flights, London Heathrow continues to lead the pack, followed by New York’s John F. Kennedy and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Since 2017, Tan Son Nhat Airport has served 36 million people annually, or about 100,000 per day on average, well exceeding its projected capacity of 25 million annually.

The second busiest airport in Vietnam, Noi Bai, can accommodate 25 million people annually.

Government efforts to shorten wait times at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports have resulted in increased service quality in recent years.

In a recent survey of airport wait times worldwide, vacation rental business Casago ranked Noi Bai at number 20. The ranking, compiled from airline quality ratings submitted by passengers, included only Vietnam’s Hanoi airport.
