According to Google, Phu Quoc Island in the province of Kien Giang in the country’s south was the most sought-after holiday destination by Vietnamese users.

Using data from its online travel booking service Google Flights, the company ranked the most popular destinations in Vietnam from mid-December 2023 to mid-January 2024. The central beach city of Da Nang ranked second, followed by the southern commercial powerhouse of Ho Chi Minh City.

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, came in at number six, behind primarily international locations.

Bangkok, Thailand, and Tokyo, Japan, both in Japan, were in the top five.

After Singapore, Siem Reap, and New York, Sydney, Australia, ranked seventh.

The best time to visit Phu Quoc, a tropical island known for its miles of pristine beaches and luxurious beachfront hotels, is between the months of December and March.

A national park and marine sanctuary attract hikers to the island.

Costing roughly VND2.3 million (US$94.36) per person, round-trip flights from HCMC to Phu Quoc in December are more expensive than those departing from Hanoi, which cost VND4 million.

This month, Phu Quoc Island was recognized by both the American travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler and the British publication The Travel as one of the top places to visit in the world.

According to Google’s data, Vietnamese travelers are more interested in visiting Asia and the Pacific.

The number of new direct routes launched by Vietnamese airlines to destinations in Asia and Australia has surged significantly.

Over 3.8 million Vietnamese left the country in the first nine months of this year, a 2.5-fold increase year-over-year.
